Official dates for the 2021 Getting to Zero Forum have been announced, we are thrilled to bring this premier event on zero energy and zero carbon buildings to New York City, March 15-17, 2021. New Buildings Institute and Rocky Mountain Institute welcome NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) as a local host sponsor for the event which will focus on creating a new energy future for the built environment—in both residential and commercial sectors.
New York is pushing forward solutions to mitigate the vulnerability of the state to the effects of a changing climate. Our partnership with NYSERDA means opportunities for those working in and around New York State to learn from leaders in zero energy and zero carbon best practices. Educating local practitioners will support efforts to achieve the aggressive goals set forth by the state. Energy use of buildings in New York is responsible for 56% of Statewide Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from fuel combustion. Bringing this advanced learning opportunity to the state has the potential to make a great impact to the building stock of one of the biggest cities in the world.
The Getting to Zero Forum has convened groups across the country. This is the first visit to New York State and the biggest Forum yet, with an estimated attendance of over 800 state and local policymakers, designers, program managers, building owners, operators, commercial real estate professionals and others. The recent 2019 Getting to Zero Forum in Oakland, the fifth convening, hosted over 600 attendees in 41 educational sessions and workshops. As the program expands to include more on electrification, embodied carbon, grid interactivity, and the collective call to action on the climate, it gives us the opportunity to bring together a bigger pool of leaders to share their expertise on zero energy and zero carbon performance outcomes.
