Greg Hale joined the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) in February 2018, as Senior Advisor for Energy Efficiency Markets and Finance. Greg is leading NYSERDA’s development of a policy roadmap to achieve a statewide carbon neutral building stock by 2050. This work includes strategic leadership for RetrofitNY, an initiative aimed at developing scalable existing building retrofit solutions that achieve or approach net zero energy, as well as overseeing the integration of all NYSERDA net zero initiatives. As a member the Executive Committee Greg also provides input on many other NYS clean energy policy initiatives, with a specific focus on energy efficiency financing.
Prior to joining NYSERDA, Greg served in Governor Cuomo’s administration as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of Energy & Finance, where he focused on the development and execution of the Governor’s signature energy policy– Reforming the Energy Vision (REV). Greg was responsible for overseeing the establishment of the $1 billion NY Green Bank, and was the lead author of NY’s 2015 State Energy Plan. Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, Mr. Hale was the Director of Efficiency Finance at Natural Resources Defense Council’s Center for Market Innovation.
Mr. Hale is a founding board member of the New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation, where he currently chairs the HR & Governance committee, and he served on the steering committee of the PACENow Coalition.
Prior to NRDC, Mr. Hale spent 17 years in the real estate industry, first as a real estate lawyer at Skadden, Arps, et al., and then as co-owner and general counsel of Cirque Property L.C., a real estate investment company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Hale is a graduate of Dartmouth College and The University of Michigan Law School.
