Genevieve Sherman

Head of Sustainability and Policy | Nuveen Green Capital

As Head of Sustainability & Policy, Genevieve leads Nuveen Green Capital’s impact reporting, as well the geographic expansion of C-PACE policies, now adopted in 38 states.

Before joining Nuveen Green Capital, Genevieve spearheaded the original design and implementation of Connecticut’s C-PACE program at the Connecticut Green Bank (CTGB) – largely considered the first successful C-PACE program in the country. In 2016, Genevieve joined her CTGB colleagues, Jessica Bailey & Alexandra Cooley to start Greenworks Lending, which later became NGC. As a founding member of the organization and member of the executive team, Genevieve has led the expansion and implementation of C-PACE policy from one to over three dozen states, created the policy framework for multistate securitization of C-PACE loans, and helped the company surpass $1.5 billion in originations volume. Recently, Genevieve won the ACEEE Champion of Energy Efficiency in Industry Award within the Implementation and Deployment Category, along with Jessica Bailey, Co-Founder and CEO of Nuveen Green Capital.

Prior to her work in the C-PACE policy arena, Genevieve consulted with Clean Energy Solutions Inc., Earth Markets, and HR&A Advisors to design and operate state and utility administered energy efficiency programs. Genevieve holds a Master of City Planning and Certificate in Environmental Policy from MIT, and a BA in Urban Studies from Columbia University.

Genevieve currently serves on the Credit Support working group of the Clean Energy Buyer’s Institute. Beyond working in buildings and energy, she is passionate about advancing natural resource conservation and adaptation through her community involvement in her home state of Colorado. As a ‘third-generation’ Junior Trustee of the Aloha Foundation, started by her grandmother, she oversees grants to the Colorado Youth Conservation Corps. Additionally, she has acquired and placed 700 acres of land and water resources under permanent environmental conservation easement in Colorado, working with Colorado Open Lands, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting Colorado’s lands and waters.
