David Cohan

David is IMT’s Senior Advisor and leads the Very High Efficiency HVAC pilot program which focuses on decarbonizing buildings without increasing demand on the grid. David has worked in building energy efficiency for more than 25 years. He came to IMT from the U.S. Department of Energy, where he managed the Building Energy Codes Program. Prior to that, he was the Senior Manager of Codes and Standards at the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. He also has broad experience in program evaluation.

Several years ago, David became interested in cities’ potential role in energy efficiency and funded multiple projects aimed at developing a systematic approach to the collection and analysis of municipal building data. He is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego and holds a master’s degree in energy management and policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
