Green Built Environment Senior Coordinator | San Francisco Department of the Environment

In support of San Francisco’s Climate Action Strategy goals of zero waste, >50% of trips via sustainable modes, and 100% renewable energy (0-50-100), Barry Hooper leads development of the San Francisco Green Building Code for new buildings, including requirements that new buildings meet GreenPoint Rated or LEED standards, install solar PV or green roofs, and provide electrical infrastructure for vehicle charging. Barry manages the Existing Commercial Buildings Energy ordinance, which requires annual energy benchmarking and an action plan for cost-effective energy efficiency improvement. He is Technical Advisor to the Bay Area Regional Energy Network Codes & Standards program, active in the C40 Cities Private Sector Energy Efficiency Network and US DOE State and Local Energy Action Network (SEE-Action). Barry represents local governments on California’s statewide Energy Data Access Committee.
