Getting to LEED Zero Energy and LEED Zero Carbon with USGBC

This blog was originally posted by USGBC on January 27, 2020 and written by Melanie Colburn. New Buildings Institute is a Local Partner for the Pacific Region workshops.

Join the Pacific region in moving the market for LEED Zero Energy and LEED Zero Carbon, Feb. 24–28.

USGBC’s Pacific region communities will host a USGBC Town Hall meeting on LEED Zero, featuring an address from USGBC’s President and CEO, Mahesh Ramanujam. He will share his vision for the future of USGBC and LEED Zero, a complement to LEED that verifies the achievement of net zero goals. LEED Zero Energy and LEED Zero Carbon certification address a critical need for action on global climate change and carbon emissions.

The five Town Hall meetings will be held Feb. 24–28, across Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; and San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Los Angeles, California. In each city, the Town Hall will feature an Executive Breakfast, as well as a LEED technical workshop, LEED plaque presentations and market development activities.

Executive Breakfast

The invite-only breakfasts feature an address from Ramanujam, who will share his vision for the future of USGBC and LEED Zero. The Executive Breakfast will bring together leaders moving the market, including developers, leading firms and local partners from across the USGBC local communities. Kimberly Lewis, USGBC’s Senior Vice President, Market Transformation and Development, North America, will address the organization’s commitment to equity and share how we are advancing our vision for “green buildings for all within a generation.” We’ll also hear a few words from our sponsors and partners.

Technical workshops

In the afternoon, USGBC will offer a 2.5-hour technical workshop, “Getting to LEED Zero Energy and LEED Zero Carbon,” designed for practitioners. Learn how to take your high-performing LEED building to the next level and how to implement LEED Zero.

The workshop provides GBCI continuing education credit of 3 hours (LEED-specific for Building Design and Construction and Operations and Management), intermediate level.
