Steven is an experienced educator and thought leader examining the intersectionality of Sustainability, Education, Workforce Development and Entrepreneurship with a focus on Social Justice and Youth Development. He has more than 15 years’ experience developing and leading sustainability focused programs. Creating pathways for emerging leaders of color, he specializes in the areas of Climate Change, Conservation and Clean Energy.
He is a leading consultant in the areas of Sustainability, K-12 Education, Leadership Development, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and is the Founder and Principal of Global Sustainable Solutions (GSS). GSS is a global consulting firm providing sustainability-based educational and workforce development solutions. GSS works with nonprofits and the private sector to train, develop and operationalize strategies for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. GSS has developed and manages the Fellowship for Diversity in Sustainability, a national fellowship program for the private sector. Through its work GSS elevates the voice and participation of Black and Brown people as participants, owners, thought leaders, contributors, innovators, entrepreneurs and decision makers.
Steven was a Visiting Scholar at The Tishman Environment and Design Center at The New School. He also served as guest lecturer having worked with university professors on developing in-class approaches to teaching about Climate Change. His research includes Gen Z and the Impact of COVID 19, and the NAACP Diversity & Opportunity Report Card for the Sustainable Building Sector.
Steven is the Founder, former CEO, and School leader of the Barack Obama Green Charter High School, New Jersey’s first charter high school focused on sustainability. The school’s mission was to develop independent critical thinkers and leaders in the area of sustainable development. He also developed and managed a Union County, New Jersey workforce development program designed to teach participants Conservation, Climate Change and Clean Energy 21st century skills.
Steven’s work with the Global Labor Institute at Cornell University’s School of Industrial Labor Relations (ILR) focused on Green Jobs and the design of a Low Carbon Green Economy. This work led him closely to work with national and international labor leaders strategizing emerging changes in the global workforce and economy. He also served as a program designer and facilitator for the Black Trade Union Leadership Academy.
Steven holds a Bachelor of Arts from Pace University in Anthropology and a Masters of Arts from The New School University in International Affairs. As a student in the International Affairs program Steven was an integral member of the graduate research team that help to develop the infrastructure of the India China Institute at The New School. He served as a mentor for the Impact Entrepreneurship Initiative, is a Senior Fellow of the Environmental Leadership Program, member of the Association of Environmental Studies and Sciences and Committee Member of the NAACP’s Environmental and Climate Justice Committee. He is the Director of the RAY Diversity Fellowship Program, a national fellowship program diversifying the environmental sector. Board service includes Executive Advisory Board Member – University of Colorado’s Global Sustainability Scholars program, Stride’s Business Pathways Advisory Council and former Board Member – Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
