Katie Bergfeld is the Branch Chief for Building Performance and Enforcement in the Energy Administration at the Department of Energy & Environment. She has been with the agency since January 2015, when she was brought in to help manage the District’s benchmarking program, a regulatory program that requires all large commercial and multifamily buildings to report their energy and water usage to the District on an annual basis. As a Branch Chief, Katie now oversees a team that administers and enforces all facets of the benchmarking law, as well as the development and implementation of the District’s Building Energy Performance Standards program, a key piece of the District’s Clean Energy DC climate action plan and a first-of-its-kind policy in the nation. Prior to joining DOEE, Katie served as a Program Specialist with the U.S. Green Building Council, where she worked in the LEED Certification Department. Katie has an M.A. in Natural Resources & Sustainable Development from American University and B.S. in Environmental Studies from Emory University. She is a Certified Energy Manger, (CEM), LEED Accredited Professional (BD+C) and Project Management Professional (PMP).
