Robert Horner

Bob received a BS in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. After spending the early part of his career in the Energy Management field, he focused on the lighting industry, spending 21 years with OSRAM Sylvania in positions of Commercial Engineering Manager, Product Group Marketing Manager for Fluorescent Lamps, and Business Unit Manager for Visualization and Imaging Systems. He holds a patent as part of the team that developed reduced mercury linear fluorescent lamps.

For the last seven years, Bob has been part of the excellent IES staff as Director of Public Policy. His responsibilities include educating government agencies and our lawmakers and their staffs about lighting issues, working with allied organizations to establish the IES as the objective authority on lighting, and the development and adoption of energy codes, standards, and lighting ordinances.

Bob is a long-standing member of the IES and the IEEE. A past chair or member of several IES committees, Bob co-authored two major IES educational programs: Fundamentals of Lighting and Discover Lighting. Over the years, Bob has given numerous presentations at Lightfair, IES Annual Conference, and other industry events.
