Baker administration unveils building code slide deck

Published by CommonWealth Magazine: Baker Administration officials unveiled a slide deck on Tuesday that outlines in broad strokes how they intend to use updates to two existing state building codes and the development of a third more restrictive code to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions coming from newly constructed commercial and residential buildings.

NBI worked with the project team to identify code approaches for consideration as part of the development of this new specialized stretch code and to analyze the mid-to-long term impacts of transitioning to a much more efficient commercial energy code for the State. This work has informed some of the key components outlined in this straw proposal and has helped the MA Department of Energy Resources assess the potential impact of such a stretch code in meeting Massachusetts’ commitment of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
