Derek Jones is an Associate Director in the Energy Practice at Navigant. Derek has more than 10 years of experience in distributed energy resource technology evaluation, program, and policy planning. He has managed technical feasibility, market assessment, market characterization, load research, econometric, and process evaluation studies. While at Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) he managed the development of regulatory compliance reports estimating load impacts and adoption forecasts for solar photovoltaics (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) technologies. He also served as the statewide research planning lead for zero net energy (ZNE) and codes and standards, and as the PG&E lead for California Solar Initiative (CSI) research. In these roles, he led multi-year collaborations among staff from the California Investor Owned Utilities (IOU), the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the California Energy Commission (CEC), and public stakeholders to produce and implement strategic research roadmaps. In particular, he managed multiple analyses of ZNE technical feasibility, market baselines, and policy environments for PG&E, on behalf of the California IOUs including the Road to ZNE: Mapping Pathways to ZNE Buildings in California (CALMAC PGE0326.01) and Residential ZNE Market Characterization (CALMAC PGE0351.01) studies. He holds a Master of Public Policy from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English from the University of California, Los Angeles.
